BrioHR, an HR tech startup with a strong presence in Singapore, has secured SGD8.7 million (US$6.5 million) in Series A funding.

The funding round was spearheaded by Openspace Ventures, with additional participation from Taiwania Hive Ventures and a range of regional investors.

The HRtech startup’s immediate strategic focus will be on further developing the integration of AI capabilities and expanding its operational and brand footprint in Singapore.

BrioHR operates an all-in-one platform leveraging technology to support over 1,000 companies throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the broader ASEAN region. The platform consolidates essential HR functions such as payroll, compliance, and employee engagement into one system.

Given Singapore’s status as a global tech and innovation hub, Croc highlighted the island nation’s significance as a key market for BrioHR. The government’s strong impetus for digital transformation, AI adoption, and smart workforce solutions, notably through the Singapore Economy 2030 Vision, aligns with the startup’s mission to equip businesses with leading HR technology, he added.

According to Hian Goh, co-founder and Partner at Openspace Ventures BrioHR’s platform effectively resolves major challenges for businesses dealing with complex HR regulations across multiple ASEAN countries.

A new study has found that between 2019 and 2022, startup hiring across APAC and ME surged, with new hires growing by 423 per cent—far outpacing the 115 per cent increase in departures. However, this trend has now reversed.

In 2024, hiring activity remained 131 per cent above 2019 levels, but departures (including resignations and layoffs) rose by over 400 per cent. The ratio of hires to departures dropped to 2:1, down from 10:1 in 2021–2022—reflecting a significant contraction in workforce expansion.
