The company designs and develops semiconductors for cutting-edge applications in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).

Its proprietary intellectual property (IP), dedication to research and development (R&D), and its move into custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design are expected to strengthen its market position and elevate Malaysia’s status within the global chip ecosystem.

Gobi Partners’ decision to invest in SkyeChip is attributed to the company’s rapid establishment of a strong presence in the chip design market since its inception. The increasing global demand for designers based in Southeast Asia, substantial growth in key end-markets like AI and HPC, and SkyeChip’s continuous innovation in its product offerings are expected to drive the company’s long-term growth.

Furthermore, Malaysia’s strategic geographical position and expanding ecosystem make it an ideal hub for semiconductor innovation in Southeast Asia.

Thomas G. Tsao, co-founder and Chairperson of Gobi Partners, stated: “We believe SkyeChip is well-positioned to capitalise on the rising demand for advanced semiconductor solutions, particularly in AI and HPC applications. SK and Chee Hak have built a formidable business at the cutting edge of IP and IC design, and we look forward to working with them through their next stage of growth.”

Also Read: ‘The future of semiconductor manufacturing is regional’: Global TechSolutions CEO

Recently, the United States government decided to levy a 25 per cent tariff on semiconductors, presenting a significant challenge for Malaysia. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan highlighted that 60 per cent of the country’s trade with the US comprises electrical and electronics (E&E) exports, making this a critical issue. The ASEAN countries are planning an immediate special ASEAN-US summit to present their concerns to the new US administration, aiming to mitigate the tariff’s impact on ASEAN countries.

The post Malaysian chip designer SkyeChip secures investment to fuel expansion appeared first on e27.

[L-R] SkyeChip’s CEO Fong Swee Kiang and CTO Teh Chee Hak with Gobi Partners’s Thomas G.
