Police believe they may have made a breakthrough in the search for missing Queensland<\/a> teenager Pheobe Bishop.<\/p>\n More than a week after the 17-year-old vanished before checking in for a flight to Western Australia, police have narrowed a search to an isolated area of bushland.<\/p>\n Homicide detectives have joined the investigation, although police say they have not given up hope of finding Pheobe alive.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> South-west Sydney residents prepare to evacuate from flash flooding<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n The discovery of an item of potential interest shifted the focus to scrubland west of Gin Gin, and Detective Acting Inspector Ryan Thompson said the police diving squad had helped with the search of a creek.<\/p>\n "Police have subsequently been conducting some searches of the Good Night Scrub National Park in the hopes of finding some evidence in relation to her disappearance," he said.<\/p>\n "There are no specific persons of interest, however police are following up all avenues of enquiry."<\/p>\n The search was halted as night fell and will resume in the morning. Police have not confirmed if the item that was found is connected to Phoebe's case.<\/p>\n Pheobe was last seen on Thursday, May 15, by her housemates, who say they dropped her off outside the Bundaberg Regional Airport at 8.30am.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> Police baffled as motorcyclist straps dog to chest<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \ufeffShe had a ticket to fly to Western Australia, via Brisbane, to visit her boyfriend, but she never entered the terminal or checked in for her flight.<\/p>\n There has been no confirmed sighting of Pheobe or her luggage since then.\ufeff<\/p>\n Pheobe's mother, Kylie Johnson, made a renewed plea for information today.<\/p>\n "The numbness that we feel at the not knowing is eating at us \u2026 we would do anything just to hear your voice," Johnson said.<\/p>\n "I have no words to describe what this is doing to our family, to our friends and to our community."<\/p>\n Detectives returned today to the Gin Gin home Pheobe shared with her housemates, searching a bus parked out the front before being shown potential new evidence by the mother of one of Pheobe's friends.<\/p>\n The messages show the 17-year-old talking about looking forward to her trip to Western Australia.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> 'What was that bang?': Sound of Titan implosion captured in footage<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n There have been no arrests and Thompson said police had no specific persons of interest.\ufeff<\/p>\n \ufeffWhen asked if police believed Pheobe was still alive, Thompson said, "we never give up hope, we certainly hope so and I am sure her family are hoping so as well".<\/p>\n He said police had previously spoken with Pheobe's roommates, who were the last to see her.\ufeff<\/p>\n Their Gin Gin house remains an active crime scene, as does the car used to take her to the airport, a grey Hyundai ix35 with Queensland registration 414EW3.<\/p>\n It is not clear if Pheobe was seen on CCTV outside the airport.<\/p>\n Thompson said "versions that have been provided to police" had led investigators to consider Airport Drive as Pheobe's last known location.<\/p>\n Thompson would not reveal where or when Pheobe's phone was last used but said that was also part of the investigation.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> Kid Cudi says car set on fire weeks after Diddy broke into home<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Thompson said Pheobe's family were "overwhelmed" and that police were keeping them up to date with developments.<\/p>\n Pheobe's boyfriend told 9News yesterday that he was devastated and couldn't believe the situation was real but was holding up okay.<\/p>\n Earlier, Phoebe's mother had said the family's "heartache and pain is raw and real".<\/p>\n "We as a family are trying to hang onto the light of life that is our Free Spirited Gypsy Soul Phee Phee," she posted on Facebook.<\/p>\n "Phee we need you home, we need to hear your sassy voice and feel your hugs."<\/p>\n Family members have handed out more than 400 missing person flyers across Bundaberg and Gin Gin and have been searching rivers and bushland.<\/p>\n Pheobe is described as about 180 centimetres tall with a pale complexion, long dyed red hair, and hazel eyes.<\/p>\n She was last seen carrying luggage and wearing a green tank top and grey tracksuit pants.<\/p>\n DOWNLOAD THE 9NEWS APP<\/strong><\/em><\/a>: Stay across all the latest in breaking news, sport, politics and the weather via our news app and get notifications sent straight to your smartphone.
